WHAT IS THE TURNAROUND TIME FOR PHOTOS?

6 to 8 weeks. You’ll receive a preview with a dozen or so proofs within a week of the event.

How many pictures will we get?

Typically 50 to 100 photos per hour. If you have a larger bridal party that can add to the number of portraits, but most weddings fall somewhere around 600 images.

Do you ever work with a second photographer?

Unless I’m with Sloane I prefer to work alone. Hiring an additional eye is something we can discuss in consultation based on venue and budget.

Do you shoot Film? WHat camera do you have?

Yes. If you would like a film heavy gallery that can be accommodated. Primarily I shoot a Canon 5D Mark III with an assortment of prime lenses.

How would you describe your style?

Versatile. One of my pet peeves about wedding photography is the reduction of the definition, and expectation of “fine art” to mean “light and airy” or faux film presets. I like shadow detail and maintaining highlight integrity alike. I’m most concerned with quality of light and producing images and files that will stand the test of time. I’m more hands on than a photojournalist, but adore catching candid moments. What’s most important is each frame telling its part of the story. Ultimately, I would describe my style as classic documentary with a lust for Dutch Golden Age light.

Can I have the RAW Files?

No.

Do you retouch photos?

Yes. All delivered images will be toned and color corrected. I work in Lightroom and love tinkering with levels.

Do you have insurance?

Yes.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SHOOTING WEDDINGS?

Est. 2015, I’ve had a camera since 2008.

Do you do weddings full time?

No. I work for a magazine during the week. You can find my clips and design work elsewhere on this site. I also do photography for a number of business partners and brands. I love doing headshots and environmental lifestyle shoots when I can.

Who is Ruth? Why “Orion”?

Ruth is my middle name. Orion is in lieu of getting a tattoo of the constellation because my dad would kill me. I like the story(ies), the elusive hunter with no standardized poetic legacy but so clearly recognized in the winter sky, adjacent to Gemini. The idea that sunlight could heal blindness, etc.
